Wood Pellet Export Packaging: Receiving & Quotation Checklist

A useful packaging request starts with handling equipment, storage conditions and intended use. Bag size and net shipment weight should be agreed in the quotation.

Describe unloading

State whether the destination uses manual handling, forklifts or bulk unloading equipment. Provide restrictions on bag dimensions, pallet type and delivery access.

Agree the commercial details

Confirm net mass per pack, pallet arrangement, labelling, moisture protection and inspection requirements. Availability of a format is subject to supplier confirmation.

Avoid a fixed container assumption

Ask for a shipment-specific loading plan. Product density, packaging, pallets, payload limits and the route all affect the achievable net weight.

Describe the format you need

Request options; availability requires confirmation
Requested formatReceiving questions
Small bagsManual handling limits, target net pack weight, shelf/storage requirements and destination labels.
Large bagsForklift/crane arrangement, approved lifting procedure, bag dimensions and covered storage.
Bulk deliveryCompatible unloading system, access, storage design and dust management arrangements.

A quotation should settle these details

  • Fuel net mass per pack; pack count and gross shipment mass.
  • Pallet type and layout where used, plus shipment-specific loading plan.
  • Moisture protection, label content and who approves the artwork.
  • Delivery destination, named delivery term, transport scope and unloading responsibility.
  • Inspection timing, damage records and agreed action for non-conforming packs.

Receiving questions to send

Describe the access route, unloading equipment, covered storage space and how the fuel will reach the appliance. Specify any local packaging or labelling requirements for review. These details are a request for quotation, not confirmation that every format is stocked.

Pellet storage requires more than weather protection: HSE documents gas risks in enclosed pellet stores. Ask the site’s competent team to plan storage and access before selecting bulk delivery.
